Knut Ole Flåthen, born on August 20, 1946, in Kongsberg, is a former head of Statens Kartverk and later CEO of Norkart. With a military background from the Navy, he holds degrees from the Norwegian Naval Academy and a master's from the US Naval Postgraduate School. He led Kartverket from 1996 to 2008, focusing on developing new services and electronic nautical charts. His tenure saw the transfer of land registration authority to Kartverket. Flåthen was knighted by the Norwegian king and appointed commander of Finland's Lion of Finland Order.
