Born on January 16, 1922, he participated in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he secured fifth place individually. Wagner also contributed to team events, earning second place in the 1954 European Championships and a silver medal in the 1956 Olympics in Stockholm. His final Olympic appearance was in 1968, where he placed 24th individually. He passed away on August 16, 2001.
