Kjell Olaf Jensen was a Norwegian literary critic, essayist, and translator of fiction and non-fiction from several languages including French, German, English, and other Scandinavian languages. He earned a master's degree in literary science. From 1997 to 2007, he led Norwegian PEN and served as chairman of the Norwegian Literary Critics' Association from 1985 to 1990, and vice president of the International Association of Literary Critics from 1989 to 1993. He received the Riksmålsprisen for translation in 1984 and was named critic of the year in 2001.
