Kiyoteru Ōsawa was a Japanese astronomer born on March 27, 1917, in Tokyo (then Tokyo Prefecture). He was one of the pioneers of observational astrophysics in Japan and studied under Yasukiyo Hagiwara. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he received the Purple Ribbon Medal in 1982 and the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Second Class, in 1988. Kiyoteru Ōsawa passed away on December 21, 2005.
