He served as an emeritus professor at Hitotsubashi University, where he played a crucial role in the development of mathematics education, contributing significantly to what is known as 'Hitotsubashi mathematics'. His efforts laid the foundation for the current mathematics curriculum at Hitotsubashi University. Yamada passed away on November 25, 1974.
