Keshav Jagannath Purohit (1923-2018) was a prominent Marathi writer known by his pen name Shantaram. Born in Chamorshi, Maharashtra, he earned a doctorate in English literature from Nagpur University. Purohit taught English literature for 40 years at various colleges, serving as the principal of Ismail Yusuf College in Mumbai. He was active in literary circles and presided over the 1989 Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in Amravati. Purohit passed away at his residence in Vandre, Mumbai, on October 17, 2018.
