He is known for blending traditional Japanese styles with modern architecture and has designed major buildings across five continents. His career, spanning the second half of the 20th century, included significant architectural projects in Tokyo and urban planning initiatives. Tange’s international recognition began with his design for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in 1949, influenced by Swiss modernist architect Le Corbusier.
