Kentaro Kawatsu was a Japanese swimmer born in Hiroshima on September 26, 1914. He specialized in backstroke events and competed during the 1930s. Kawatsu won a bronze medal in the 100 meters backstroke at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, finishing behind compatriots Masaji Kiyokawa and Toshio Irie. In 1933, he set a national record in the 50 meters backstroke. His life ended tragically when he committed suicide on March 23, 1970.
