Kenji Takahashi was a Japanese Germanist and translator known for his work on the writings of Hermann Hesse and Erich Kästner. He was instrumental in promoting their ideas in Japan. Takahashi served as the chairman of the Japanese P.E.N. Center from 1977 to 1981. He was born on August 18, 1902, in Kyōbashi, Tokyo, and passed away on March 2, 1998.
