Keijo Astala was a Finnish archivist and historian, born on April 8, 1908, in Helsinki and died on March 8, 1991, in Helsinki. He served as the director of the Savo-Karjala Provincial Archive and later Mikkelin Provincial Archive from 1945 to 1972. Astala contributed to a linguistic debate in the early 1960s with his writing on the origins of a particular letter-based barbarism in Finland. In 1987, he published a book arguing that the Heruli of ancient times were of Finnish descent.
