Cornelis (Kees) Droogleever Fortuyn was a resistance member during World War II, born in Amsterdam on April 10, 1922. He intended to study at Leiden University but found that several of his fellow students had already escaped to England. His notable contemporaries included Karel Michielsen, Fred Vas Nunes, and Kees van Eendenburg, who fled in July 1940. Fortuyn's life was tragically cut short when he died at Mauthausen on September 6, 1944.
