He served in the Kraków security services starting in 1972, eventually becoming a leader in the IV Department. He supervised operations aimed against the Kraków curia and faced accusations of threats against Maciej Gawlikowski, who revealed aspects of the security services' actions in the Vatican. Discussions reportedly took place between him and Archbishop Stanisław Dziwisz regarding compromising pro-lustration clergy.
