She held ministerial roles, including Minister for Conservation, Forests and Lands, Minister for Community Services, and Minister Responsible for Child Care, during which she enacted significant reforms in child welfare. Post-politics, she co-founded EMILY's List Australia and contributed to several women's organizations. Setches has influenced many through her advocacy, and her children continue her legacy in Labor politics.
