Karl-Ludwig Kompa, also known as Karl Kompa, is a German chemist born on February 14, 1938, in Berlin. He is noted for his work with lasers and their application in chemistry. Kompa obtained his doctorate in 1965 and habilitated in 1971 at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. He was one of the founding directors of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in 1981 and served as a professor at the University of Munich. He developed the oxygen-iodine laser and received the Willis E. Lamb Prize in 2004 for his contributions to laser chemistry.
