Kara Elizabeth Walker, born on November 26, 1969, is a contemporary American artist known for her silhouette art, printmaking, installation art, and filmmaking. Her work often explores themes of race, gender, sexuality, violence, and cultural identity. Walker is famous for her large-scale black paper cut-out silhouettes. She lives in New York City and teaches at Columbia University. Additionally, she held a five-year position as the Tiffany Professor of Visual Arts at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts and was elected president of the American Society for Aesthetics in 2018.
