Kanji Itoi (December 2, 1920 - December 19, 2021) was a Japanese avant-garde artist, happening artist, and Dadaist. He is known as the pioneer of happening art in Japan. During Japan's period of rapid economic growth, he conducted guerrilla happenings involving nudity on the streets, notably during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and the 1970 Osaka Expo. Despite being largely ignored by the art world for many years and having scarce documentation of his work, he is often referred to as a 'legend.' He was commonly known as Dadakan.
