Throughout his career, he earned five SM-silver medals and three SM-bronze medals, although he never won a championship. Gustafsson also played for the Finnish national team from 1950 to 1953, participating in 24 games with an average of 0.9 points per game and represented Finland in the European Championships in 1951 and 1953.
