Prof. Dr. Kahruddin Yunus (1915-1979) was a pioneering Indonesian Islamic economist who introduced and propagated the ideas of Islamic economics or syariah, initially referred to as a shared economic system. He began proposing these thoughts in the late 1950s, although they were overshadowed by the political turmoil in Indonesia at that time. Kahruddin published a significant book on Islamic economics in 1955, which was noted as one of the most comprehensive works on the subject during the early revival of Islamic economics.
