General K. V. Krishna Rao was the 14th Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army. Born in 1923, he passed away in 2016. He served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura. Commissioned as a second lieutenant in the British Indian Army in 1942, he led the 8th Mountain Division during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, liberating the northeastern area of East Pakistan from the Pakistan Army.
