Julije Njikoš was a prominent Croatian composer, melographer, and music organizer, known as a pioneer of tambura music in Croatia. He founded the Tambura Orchestra of Radio Osijek and the International Festival of Croatian Tambura Music. In 1951, he became the editor of folk music at Radio Osijek. Over his career, he composed numerous works for instrumental ensembles and choirs, as well as folk and children's plays. Njikoš dedicated over seventy years to researching national heritage, documenting around 4,000 folk songs and stories from rural life.
