Judith Krug (March 15, 1940 - April 11, 2009) was an American librarian, free speech advocate, and censorship critic. She served as the director of the Office for Intellectual Freedom at the American Library Association starting in 1967 and became the executive director of the Freedom to Read Foundation in 1969. Krug was instrumental in founding Banned Books Week in 1982 and opposed censorship, emphasizing the importance of protecting library users' privacy. Her activism included challenging the Communications Decency Act of 1996 and recent government surveillance of library records.
