Josiah Marvel Jr. was an American diplomat who served as the chief of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Denmark from 1946 to 1949, appointed by President Harry S. Truman. He held roles as Envoy Extraordinary and later as Ambassador. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Marvel was also a lawyer and politician, serving as Delaware Secretary of State from 1938 to 1941. During WWII, he enlisted in the Army, reaching the rank of Captain. He ran for Governor of Delaware in 1940 but lost the election.
