Joseph H. Margolis (1908-1970) was an American politician and the first Jewish mayor of Chelsea, Massachusetts. His political career began when he won a seat on the Chelsea board of aldermen in 1935, after an initial unsuccessful run in 1933. Margolis served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Navy during WWII. Despite several failed campaigns for mayor, he achieved his goal in 1969 but passed away unexpectedly 358 days into his term.
