Joseph Fielding McConkie (1941-2013) was a notable professor of Ancient Scripture at Brigham Young University and a prolific author, having written over 25 books. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was a member of the LDS Church and the son of prominent church leader Bruce R. McConkie. McConkie married Brenda Kempton in 1966 and served in various capacities within the church, including as president of the Scotland Edinburgh Mission from 1989 to 1992. He earned a Doctorate of Education from BYU in 1973 and served as an LDS Chaplain in Vietnam.
