Josefina Castellví i Piulachs, born on June 1, 1935, in Barcelona, is a prominent Spanish oceanographer, biologist, and writer. In 1984, she became the first Spanish woman to participate in an international expedition to Antarctica. She earned her biology degree in 1957 and later obtained her doctorate in 1969 from the University of Barcelona. Castellví has worked at the Institute of Marine Sciences since 1960 and held various significant positions, including leading the Juan Carlos I Antarctic Base from 1989 to 1997. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to science.
