Joseba Pagazaurtundua Ruiz was a former chief of the Local Police in Andoain, Gipuzkoa, who was assassinated by ETA on February 8, 2003. A former militant of ETA political-military until 1974, he served as a municipal police officer and worked with Ertzaintza following multiple assassination attempts. Despite ETA's ceasefire, he faced ongoing threats, including car burnings and violence against him. His assassination was a response to his outspoken condemnation of ETA, and he was posthumously recognized for his public service.
