José Mejía Vides was a Salvadoran painter, sculptor, and engraver. He studied at the National Institute of Graphic Arts under Carlos Alberto Imery, with his style heavily influenced by his later trip to Mexico. During the 1930s and 1940s, he created his best works, drawing inspiration from the themes of major Mexican muralists. He received the first National Culture Prize in 1976, a notable recognition in his career.
