José Maria do Amaral Oliveira was a Brazilian military officer who served as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces under President José Sarney from March 15, 1985, to September 15, 1986. Born on December 7, 1925, in Belém, he dedicated his life to the Navy and naval aviation from the age of 15 until his death in 2009. He became an Admiral and was responsible for significant reforms, including bringing the first aircraft carrier to Brazil. He emphasized the importance of following one's vocation and had four children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
