José Escobar Saliente was a Spanish children’s author, inventor, animation pioneer, cartoonist, and playwright born in Barcelona on October 22, 1908. He was known by the signature 'Escobar' and is regarded as one of the five giants of the publishing house 'Bruguera' in the 1950s, along with Carlos Conte, Guillermo Cifré, Eugenio Giner, and José Paniagua. His fame and success were largely due to his series of stories featuring the characters Zipi and Zape, which endeared him to children and established his reputation in the literary world.
