José Abel was a Portuguese animator, film director, illustrator, and comic book author, born in Lisbon on March 21, 1948. He spent most of his career abroad, studying in Belgium and working in France, Hungary, and the USA. His animation credits include films like 'The Twelve Tasks of Asterix' and 'Heavy Metal.' Notably, he contributed to special effects animation for 'Poltergeist.' He also worked on two comic albums in the 'Les Aventures de Brian et Alves' series. In 1992, he founded José Abel Studio, producing animated short films and commercials. He passed away on April 8, 1993, in Paris.
