Jørgen Læssøe was a Danish Assyriologist born on June 26, 1924, in Jægerspris and passed away on February 2, 1993. He obtained his master's degree in Semitic Philology in 1948 and worked in Chicago before returning to Denmark in 1951. He became a lecturer and later a professor at Copenhagen University. Notably, Læssøe led Danish excavations in Tell Shemshâra in Iraq in 1957, discovering numerous cuneiform tablets from around 1800 BC. He served as a professor until 1987 and was a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
