Jorge Cantú de la Garza was a Mexican writer, journalist, cultural promoter, and poet born in Monterrey on November 1, 1937. He graduated in law from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and was part of the Kátharsis group. From 1960 to 1961, he was a fellow at the Mexican Writers' Center. He founded and directed the cultural supplement 'Aquí Vamos' for El Porvenir and was the head of Literary Arts at the Institute for Culture of Nuevo León. He also led Channel 28, now known as Radio y Televisión Nuevo León.
