Joop Schepers was a Dutch politician born in Almelo on June 16, 1940. He served on the Almelo city council from 1972 to 1990 as a member of the CPN. Notably, in 1985, he protested against excessive greenery by walking through Almelo with a pony. Following the dissolution of the CPN, he co-founded the local party Almelo's Burger Collectief (ABC) in 1994. Later, he helped create BurgerBelangen Almelo (BBA) in 1997. By 2001, he left BBA, and in 2006 and 2008, he facilitated alliances with other local parties.
