Jonathan Sacks (8 March 1948 - 7 November 2020) was a British Orthodox rabbi, philosopher, theologian, writer, and politician. He served as the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth from 1991 to 2013. In his role as the spiritual leader of the largest Jewish congregation in the UK, he held the title of Chief Rabbi but was not recognized as the religious authority for the Haredi community or progressive movements such as Conservative and Reform Judaism. At the time of his death, he held the title of Emeritus Chief Rabbi.
