As the son of renowned producer Mark Goodson, he began his career in 1973 at Goodson-Todman Productions, eventually taking over the company after his father's passing in 1992. He ran the studio until its sale in 1995. Goodson also founded Jonathan Goodson Productions, focusing on state-based lottery game shows, notably Illinois Instant Riches, which gained nationwide attention.
