Jon Wetlesen is a Norwegian philosopher and professor emeritus at the University of Oslo, born on June 15, 1940. He is known for his work in ethics, particularly regarding animal welfare. Wetlesen earned his doctoral degree in 1976 with his dissertation titled 'The Sage and the Way: Spinoza's Ethics of Freedom.' He has authored several books, including 'Selverkjennelse og frigjøring – et buddhistisk perspektiv' and 'Biocentric moral status: the moral status of beings who are not persons.' He has also translated works of Meister Eckhart.
