John William Hayes was a Negro league catcher active from 1934 to 1951. Born on April 27, 1910, in Independence, Missouri, he served in the US Army during World War II. Hayes was recognized for his talent by being selected for the East–West All-Star Game, participating in 1947 and again in 1951. He passed away on November 16, 1988, at the age of 78 in Auburn Park, Illinois.
