John V. Evans is a British-American radio astronomer known for his contributions to radar astronomy and remote sensing technology. Born in Manchester in 1933, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Manchester and joined MIT's Lincoln Laboratory in 1960. His research includes measuring ionospheric electron density using lunar echo fading, radar studies of celestial bodies, and co-authoring a significant textbook. He received the 1975 Appleton Prize and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1984 for enhancing our understanding of planetary atmospheres.
