John Patrick Gillese (1920–1999) was an Irish-born Canadian author whose career spanned six decades. He wrote over 5,000 works including novels and short stories. His notable work, Kirby's Gander, was the first full-length feature film shot in Canada by Hollywood, pivotal to the country's film industry. As a director of Alberta Culture's Film and Literary Arts Branch, he promoted writers and received numerous awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award. His legacy includes a park named in his honor in Edmonton.
