John P. 'Pete' Johnson, born on January 22, 1963, is a retired major general in the U.S. Army. He served as deputy commanding general (South) of U.S. Army Pacific and was the 49th Commander of Fort Jackson. His military career includes roles in the 1st Ranger Battalion, Special Operations Command, and commands in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. Johnson graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1985 and earned two master's degrees. He received multiple awards, including three Distinguished Service Medals, before retiring on July 8, 2020.
