John Gray, born on April 17, 1948, is an English political philosopher known for his work in analytical philosophy and intellectual history. He retired from his position as a professor of European Thought at the London School of Economics in 2008. Gray regularly contributes to The Guardian and the literary supplement of The Times, and serves as a principal book reviewer for the New Statesman. He views himself as an atheist and has authored influential works critiquing capitalism and philosophical humanism.
