John MacVicar (1927-2011) was a British physician recognized for his pioneering role in the use of ultrasound for obstetrics, significantly transforming the diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological conditions in pregnant women. He collaborated with physician Ian Donald and engineer Tom Brown to develop the world's first obstetric ultrasound machine in 1963. His contributions also included clinical trials that advanced knowledge and treatment approaches in this field.
