John Janos Kepes was a Hungarian-American neuropathologist born on March 31, 1928, in Budapest. He fled to the United States after the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, where he specialized in neuropathology at Mayo Clinic. Over his career, he made significant contributions to his field, including being the first to describe tumefactive demyelination. He published important works, was a member of various medical societies, and served as chairman of the American Association of Neuropathologists. Kepes passed away on February 2, 2010, in Overland Park.
