John Higley is an American sociologist and author born on October 25, 1938. His research interests include comparative politics, political sociology, and the comparative study of political elites. He has extensively written about elite theory and analysis. From 2001 to 2006, he chaired the Department of Government and currently leads the International Political Science Association's Research Committee on Political Elites. Higley founded the Edward A. Clark Center for Australian and New Zealand Studies in 1988 and focuses on domestic, security, foreign, and trade policy issues in these countries.
