John Haylett (1945–2019) was a British journalist and editor of the Morning Star from 1995 to 2009. He played a crucial role in the recovery of the paper amid a crisis following the Soviet Union collapse. Initially a telecom operator, Haylett joined the Communist Party and became a reporter in 1983, later reaching assistant editor in 1985. His tenure saw internal factional tensions and a significant strike in 1998, from which he was reinstated. He stepped down in 2008 but continued working until his retirement in 2019 due to ill-health.
