John Charles Roger Childs is a British historian born on June 21, 1949. He studied at the University of Hull and King's College London, earning his Ph.D. focusing on the standing army of the Stuart Restoration. He worked in the defense industry and was a Sir James Knott Research Fellow at Newcastle University. From 1976 to 2009, he taught military history at the University of Leeds, becoming a Professor and Head of the Centre for Military History. His research interests include the British Army's history and the Glorious Revolution, and he serves as an editor and advisor in military history.
