Edward John Carnell (1912–1972) was a prominent British science fiction editor, best known for his role at New Worlds from 1946 to 1963, and as the editor of Science Fantasy in the 1950s. He launched the New Writings in SF anthology series, editing 21 issues until his death. His editorial work greatly influenced the careers of notable authors, including J. G. Ballard and Brian W.
