John W. Burgeson was an IBM engineer known for creating the first computer baseball simulation game in 1961 using an IBM 1620 Computer. His game, developed initially for enjoyment and later recognized by the National Baseball Hall of Fame, involved users managing baseball lineups through punch cards. The game's mechanics simulated matches based on statistical probabilities of players. Burgeson was a dedicated baseball fan and member of SABR. He passed away on September 12, 2016, leaving behind a large family.
