John Harold Belson (born Harry Belczinsky) was a Canadian chess player, born on February 23, 1906, in Helsingfors. He became a two-time Canadian Champion in 1934 and 1946 and earned a bronze medal in 1945. After moving to Canada in 1926, he became a member of the Toronto Chess Club through the recommendation of J. Eastman. He won the Toronto Championship seven times and participated in several U.S. Open Championships. Belson passed away on March 13, 1947, in Toronto.
