John A. Focht was a prominent American geotechnical engineer known for his contributions in pile capacity research for offshore drilling. He earned his Bachelor’s from the University of Texas at Austin in 1944 and a Master’s from Harvard in 1947. Focht worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until 1953, later serving as Vice President and Chairman of the Board at McClelland Engineers. He was recognized as a member of the National Academy of Engineering and received multiple awards from the American Society of Civil Engineers throughout his career.
